The 8-Limb Path Applied: My Approach to Yoga Therapy and Personal Transformation

You might be wondering, what exactly is my methodology? At the core of my work — whether in yoga therapy, coaching, or personal transformation — is the understanding of saṁskāras, the subtle mental and energetic impressions that shape our habits, patterns, and reactions. Every thought, word, and action leaves an imprint, and over time, these impressions can either support us or unconsciously run our lives. My approach is to help clients become aware of these patterns, understand their effects, and intentionally cultivate new, supportive saṁskāras.

I use the 8-limbed path of Patañjali as a practical framework for this process. The first limbs — yamas and niyamas — guide us in aligning our values and actions with clarity and integrity. Āsana and prāṇāyāma regulate the body and nervous system, creating the stability and presence necessary to observe patterns without judgment. And meditation practices — pratyāhāra, dhāraṇā, dhyāna, and samādhi — cultivate deep awareness and insight, allowing lasting transformation of both mind and energy. By integrating all eight limbs, clients learn to move beyond reactive living, reshape their internal patterns, and step into intentional, empowered action in every aspect of life.

Vinyasa Yoga, the Classical Way

Vinyasa comes from the Sanskrit Vi (in a special way) and Nyasa (to place or arrange). In the Krishnamacharya lineage transmitted to me by my teachers the Mohan’s Svastha Yoga Therapy, Srivatsa Ramaswami, and Sri Shubha, it is far more than moving from one pose to another—it is intelligent sequencing of breath, energetic locks/ control, focused gaze, and intentional posture awareness.

Every movement is purposeful, connecting body, mind, breath, and energy. Transitions are meditative, and each posture is selected to prepare the body and mind for the next. This creates a practice that is therapeutic, adaptive, and deeply mindful.

Unlike modern “flow” classes, which often emphasize speed or aesthetics, classical Vinyasa is student-centered, integrating prāṇa awareness, internal stability, and conscious movement.

The result is a practice that strengthens the body, steadies the mind, and opens awareness—Vinyasa as intelligence in motion.

Therapeutic Iyengar Yoga – Kripa Foundation Lineage

Rooted in the classical teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar and transmitted through the compassionate guidance of Joe Pereira at the Kripa Foundation, this approach to Iyengar Yoga blends precision, alignment, and therapeutic intent. Classes are designed to meet practitioners where they are, honoring the body’s unique structure and limitations, while systematically cultivating strength, flexibility, and resilience.

Through the careful use of props, sequencing, and mindful observation, therapeutic Iyengar Yoga helps release tension, restore balance, and support the nervous system. It’s not just a practice of poses—it’s a methodical approach to fostering self-awareness, physical wellbeing, and mental clarity. Whether recovering from injury, managing chronic conditions, or seeking a deeply mindful practice, students are guided safely and skillfully toward greater ease and vitality.
